Epitalon is a synthetic pineal tetrapeptide, which has been synthesised on the premise of the pharmacopoeic drug, Epithalamin [1; 2]. In addition, epitalon has been considered a telomerase activator and anti-ageing drug which was first synthesised in Russia. Although reviews on epitalon have described its anti-ageing effects, more research and clinical trial data is appropriately needed to reach plausible outcomes which can be considered reproducible and safe to humans.
Structure and sequence
Epitalon consists of a four amino acid (tetra) sequence – Ala – Glu – Asp – Gly, with the molecular formula of C14H22N4O9.
How it works
Epitalon, as an anti-aging peptide, has been suggested to work through its induction of telomerase activity and elongation in body cells . Moreover, epitalon is known as a pineal gland peptide and may be involved in altering lifespan – although more research is required to determine this in clinical work.
